Windows 11 Hack: Screen Recording Made Easy!

As the internet is transitioning to creating more visual and graphic content, the need for screen recording is on the rise. To make this easier, the Snipping Tool that comes with Windows 11 can now be used for recording your screen.

Here’s few easy steps to do that.

Open the Snipping Tool for Screen Recording

  • Go to the Windows Search on your computer (as shown in screenshot below) and type “Snipping Tool”.
  • You will see the Snipping Tool app in the app suggestions. Click to open the app.

Alternatively, you can also press ‘Windows logo key + Shift + R’. This shortcut will directly open the app without having to search.

Pro Tip: With Windows 11, your snipping tool may have been tied to the “Print Screen” button. You can check that in the tool settings and also update, if desired. If this option is active, all you have to do to open to the tool is to hit the “Print Screen” tab on your keyboard.

Choose the Option to Record Screen

When the Snipping Tool opens, you will see two options next to the “New” button. The first option that shows a camera is to snip an image. The next option, as chosen in the screenshot below is to record your screen.

  • When you want to start recording, press the “New” button.
  • The screen will turn transparent grey and you will see a pointer which will allow you to select an area on your screen that you want recorded.
  • Choose the desired area and start recording. The app will count down 3, 2, 1 and then start recording.
  • Once done, you will be able to choose if you want to keep the recording or delete it and restart.
  • Note that if you also want to record voice input along with screen recording, you will have to go to Settings and select the option to “Include microphone input by default when a screen recording starts.”

Where To Find Your Recorded Videos?

Where your videos are being stored depends on your settings. You can choose to manually save each video to a desired location or you can change your settings to save all videos at the default location or at a set location, as desired.

If you choose the default location, the Snipping Tool saves your recorded videos within your computer’s “Videos” folder. You will find them in a folder named “Screen Recordings”

Limitations of Snipping Tool

Although Snipping Tool is a great option for Windows users, there are some limitations:

  • It does not offer built-in editing capabilities
  • The only supported video format is MP4

Conclusion

Overall, the convenience of having a trusted Windows software makes it easy to create videos. Even with its limitations, the Snipping Tool still does a pretty good job with enhanced functionalities like providing options to only record part of the screen and making it easy to switch Windows while recording.
